I first discovered Harold Washington when he ran for mayor and I was in my mid-20s.

My first impression of Harold Washington was that he was about unity and wasn't divisive. I believe his impact was inspiring our mayor Lori Lightfoot. She is following his ideas. 

I have never met Harold Washington but I have visited the Harold Washington library. I've watched many of his speeches on TV. I voted for him both times he ran for mayor and would vote for him again if he ran for office this year. 

It was very sad when he passed while being mayor. I was sadden by it and how he had to go through so much vitriol both of his terms from the aldermen at that time. He was a good, sound-minded, eloquent man.
