colonist to buy special tax stamps
for all kinds of products. Newspapers,
wills, and land titles were some
products that required the special

5, 1770. Tension between The Colonist
and The Red Coats peaked and fighting
broke out. Colonist threw rocks, oyster
shells, and pieces of wood at soldiers. The
Red Coats fired into the crowd and killed
five colonist. Only two soldiers were
found guilty of manslaughter. After this
the colonist's hatred towards the British
grew.

Act in 1773. This allowed the East India
Company to sell tea directly to the
colonies. This affected colonial
merchants because people stopped
buying tea off them.

on December 16, 1773. This was the colonist
way of protesting the Tea Act. The sons of
liberty dressed up as natives, went aboard
ships, and threw 342 cases of tea into Boston
Harbor. This was a very significant event
because it showed the British that the Colonist
were willing to fight for what they thought
was right.

The Declaration of Independence was
the colonies way of announcing their
freedom from Great Britain. This
affected both the colonies and the
British.
