“Yes”! Said Lucas. “I can't wait to go with you Tom”! Lucas was so excited to go scuba diving with his big brother. The two brothers were on the phone when Tom gave him the big news. Lucas and Tom don't get to see each other that often because Tom was in college in New York and Lucas lives in Florida with his mom, dad, and sister. New York and Florida are a million miles away. They're going next week so they have time to get ready for the adventure. That night Lucas had a hard time falling to sleep because he is so excited. He was wondering which ocean he was going to because he knows that there are five main oceans in the world.
The day before the trip Tom called and said they were going to meet up at Carolina Beach. When the time came they met up at Carolina Beach. They got out of their car and went to check in. They got their scuba gear on and the instructor taught them how to go scuba diving and if something goes wrong what to do. “Wow, this is so cool”, said Lucas. As they got into the water Lucas saw seashells and it reminded him of the idiom he is learning in fifth grade “Sally sells seashells at the sea shore”, he then started to swim out into open water. “This water is as cold as ice” said Lucas. “There aren't that many fish in the water, I noticed” said Tom. “Recently the fisherman around here have been entered into a fishing competition and the winner gets a lot of money” Said the scuba diver. “They also fish a lot for fun which decreases the biodiversity in this area, which also messes with the food web too”. “I know that the ocean holds the most biodiversity in the whole world but it doesn't seem that way”, said Tom. “The water is deeper and bluer than I thought it would be” said Tom.
“Chomp chomp chomp”! “Ahhhhhh”! Said Lucas. “What”? Tom and the scuba diver said at the same time. “SH-SH-SH-SHARK”! Said Lucas. He was more scared than a person that was being chased by a clown.“Stay calm Lucas” Said the scuba diver. “There are 470 different known species of sharks in the world, but I think this is a nurse shark so I think we got lucky”. Soon enough a jellyfish came over too. “Don't bother them Clark”. Said Jim the jellyfish. “What”! Said Lucas. “You animals talk”!
