The articles of confederation led up to the U.S. constitution. the British parliament had no right to issue taxes and laws. British decided to punish Boston Massachusetts as a way of trying to stop the rebelling. Display of american unity would show objection to Great Britain. A letter was sent to congress explained that, they agree in half a year. Shots are fired, but there is still hope for peace. A second letter was sent directly to king, 0/2. Congress organised armed resistance with Washington. Governments did not think about independence. Colonies became States and started from scratch, throwing out their old governments. this lead up to a constitution being formed. John Dickinson wipes off Benjamin Franklin's attempt of constitution. He fears states weren't ready. Congress debates with singing constitution or declaration of independence. they choose Declaration. John Dickinson rips up his constitution that stated civil rights for everybody.
Congress set a deadline for what the Article of Confederation need to be ratified. They chose 3 months. Maryland refused to ratify becasue they wanted congress to choose where the land goes to and MAryland did not like Virginia. Virginia wanted to focus on the land in the west. Articles did not get signed by the deadline, and they became just a semi rule effect. George Washington tried to petition because congress forgot about the starving and freezing soldiers. Congress tried to help but failed. colonists and other figures started making LOADS of money. No one would trade with the worthless money people were making. Relying on taxes, everyone had their own issues. Colonies said if they had no immediate benefit, they were not interested. Washington didn't trust the Government. Benjamin Franklin served as us ambassador. Ben got the French to held George Washington. By now all states but Maryland ratified the Articles of Confederation. Maryland finally decides to ratify, but it already was falling apart. Congress stopped making fake money.
States ignored agreements. British do whatever Americans do. Westerns land sails intended to help but they didn't. Money began to be printed in the states again. They didn't want a continental union, but wanted to break apart states. Hamilton didn't want the country to fall apart but he finally agreed to replace awful government and Articles of Confederation with constitution five out of the thirteen states attended first continental convention. Washington and Hamilton wanted more states to attend, even though Washington was not planning to go. He and Hamilton came together to run the next convention. They had a plan to use the idea of George going to draw in more state representatives to come to the convention. James Madison created counter arguments, forming to Virginia plan. The Virginia plan was to abolish the Articles of Confederation, replacing it with a new Constitution. George decides to come to the convention and he leads the constitution plan.
