The Declaration of Independence is a letter that tells the world we are no longer going to be told what to do by Britain. We will have our own fair rules.

Everybody is allowed to have freedom, own their own land and make their own money.

The government protects our rules. They are supposed to put sunshine in our days and keep us safe and happy. If they don't do this we must make it better.

We may have to change our government to make it more safe. If they take away our fair rules and freedom we must fight them back, so our rules can be fair again.

The king made us let his soldiers live in our houses. We had to give them our homes and we had to feed them as well. This was unfair because it was our land and our homes.

The king also didn't let us travel and visit other countries. We weren't allowed to own lands. He forced us to stay in one area and we weren't even allowed to get more land.
