Who were the mongols?
- The mongols are an East-Central Asian ethnic group native to Mongolia and China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region.
- mongols still exist today, but they aren't the ones history books will remember
- shared mountainous areas between chin and Siberia
- They are bound together by a common heritage and ethnic identity.

Genghis khan
- Founded the mongol empire in 1206 and raided most of Eurasia.
- Genghis Khan was known as "the great khan". In modern-day he is regarded as the founding father.
- "The Great Khan" also developed the most advanced army ever seen in Asia.
- Established the largest land empire in history.
- many people were slaughtered in his invasions.

Kublai Khan
- Introduced a new social structure that divided the population into four classes.
- was the grandson of Genhis Khan, conquered china
- Born in mongolia in 1215 then rose to power in 1260.
- Raised in the nomadic traditions by his father and mother
- helped his brother expand the empire with successful military

Batu Khan
- Grandson of Genghis Khan and founder of the Golden Horde
- In 1235 Batu was elected commander in chief of western part of mongol empire
- given responsibility for the invasion of Europe
- After the deaths of Genghis Khans sons, he became the most respected prince
- "Batu" or "Bat"means "firm" in the mongolian language.
