Augmented Reality in Education.

Augmented Reality
What is augmented reality?
Where is it used?
How can it impact a student's educational experience?
What are some resources?
Augmented reality does not replace reality, such as virtual reality applications.
Augmented reality allows additional elements to be added to our real world that enhances our real world experiences.

Augmented reality adds digital elements to allow students to explore further details or new experiences not typically available in a traditional setting.
This is like adding a whole new view to learning!

Augmented reality can include opportunities to provide video, audio, web resources, quizzes, guidelines, instructions, and communication opportunities at just the right time.
Students can take advantage and explore these resources during an in class or in lab experience at their own convenience.

Using augmented reality in the classroom can move us away from static presentations and towards dynamic presentations.
Adding additional digital elements to our traditional lectures allow students to view videos, take interactive quizzes, or even create content at just the right time.

Using augmented reality in classroom labs can allow students to move from a traditional lab activity and engage in a virtual lab experience.
Augmented reality can add lab elements that could not be realistically replicated using traditional lab equipment and space.

Using augmented reality has the potential to greatly increase student engagement.
Incorporating this technology requires the student to become an active participant in the learning experience
Using augmented reality requires students to select links, click on QR codes, or other resources to activate or begin their experience.
This encourages student involvement and moves away from static instructional methods to dynamic instructional methods.
Using this type of technology also allows students to repeat activities or review when it is convenient for them.
There are many resources available to help us create augmented reality experiences for our students. The following pages highlight a few of these applications.

A free resource that can be used to create your own augmented reality applications is an application called "YouAugment". The designer mode even includes 3D images.
This application works across platforms including IOS and Android devices.
