To my wonderful students!

The transcontinental railroad made it easy to travel from the East coast to the West coast.
There were mountains. They used dynamite to make holes in the rock.

The natives did not like the workers eating all the buffalo. The train tracks went through their home. The natives and workers often fought.

Before the trains, people traveled west in covered wagons. It was hard. People got sick and were hungry.

They had to cross the Mississippi River. They used a ferry. It took 6 months to reach the West Coast.

The train could cross on a bridge. On a train, it took 7 days to reach the West.

The trains were safer than covered wagons. What do you see in the picture? How is it different?
