Big Ben is a very popular symbol of London. Big Ben is the nickname of the Great Bell in the Clock Tower, but it is also used for the clock and the tower itself. The Clock Tower, officially named Elizabeth Tower in 2012 to celebrate Queen Elizabeth Il's Diamond Jubilee Year, is at the north end of Westminster Palace. This is also called the Houses of Parliament, because it is the meeting place of the British Parliament.

In London there are many beautiful parks. Hyde Park is near the busy Oxford Street but it is nice and quiet. On the artificial lake, the Serpentine, people can boat, while at Speaker's Corner people can speak about any topic! Other people stand and listen to them. Next to Hyde Park there of Peter Pan and the Diana, Princess of Wales play- ground. Regent's Park is the home of London Zoo and Queen Mary's Garden. St James's Park is near Buckin- gham Palace. It's small but beautiful! Maria Grazia Vitelli
Brighton is a beautiful town by the sea, in the south-east of England. The main attractions in Brighton are the Pebble beach, the Wheel, the beautiful seafront and, of course, the Royal Pavillon! The Royal Pavillion is the icon of Brighton. It is an exotic and extravagant building. Its construction started in 1787 as the seaside palace of the Prince Regent, Who became King George IV in 1820. Between 1815 and 1822 the architect John Nash transformed it into an eccentric palace with Chinese, Indian and Islamic elements. At the time it was called the "Marine Pavillion". After 1841 Brighton became a crowded holiday place because Londoners could easily get there by railway. Then, the British government decided to sell it. The municipality of Brighton bought it, changing the building from a private royal residence into a public building. During the First World War it became a military hospital. Today, about 400,000 people visit the Pavillion every year with its domes, towers and sophisticated rooms and furniture. The main attractions are the Music Room, the Banqueting Room, the Royal bedrooms and the Great Kitchen. On the upper floor there is a lovely tea-room with a balcony overlooking the magnificent Royal Pavilion gardens.
