Hardships in the Depression
Unemployment situation
In the unemployment situation, millions of people were unemployed while the unemployment rate rose to 25% during the height of the Great Depression.

Soup Kitchens
Churches during that time period set up soup kitchens or places where the hungry could get a good meal.

Bonus Army
During the World War I, veterans traveled to Washington to attempt to receive their bonus money promised for past military service. They also set up a village of shacks in Washington. Then, the military was sent to kick them out.
Riding the Rails
Riding the Rails was far most dangerous. People were forced on farming, and many men and women became hoboes that begged for food at a local farmhouse. Also, people were killed and lost their lives. Hoboes would hide along the tracks outside the yard.

During the Great Depression, President Herbert Hoover responded to the Great Depression by providing government relief programs to help the needy.
How President Hoover responds to the Great Depression

Roosevelt's three goals of his program
Roosevelt's three goals of the Great depression were relief for the unemployed, plans for recovery, and reforms to prevent another depression.
How Roosevelt Communicated with Americans and told them about his programs
In order for Roosevelt to communicate with Americans about his program, he used this tool known as fireside chats. Fireside chats can be referred to radio speeches.

The New Deal and their programs
Civilian Conservation Corps
The CCC employed millions of conservation projects across the country. It hired men aged 18-25 to do outdoor projects and these workers lived in camps. They received hot meals, medical care, and clothes, and they were paid thirty dollars a month. Also, the workers in this program got work on job training. Many men learned to read, members planted trees and cleared trails while others built campgrounds and fought forest fires. The CCC roads and other projects are used all over the U.S.
